Quality of Care
The Children’s Clinic Quality Assurance Committee consists of physicians from our clinic. The Groups’ goal and commitment is to continuously monitor and maintain quality medical care, and clinical protocols.
Access to Care
Our clinic constantly monitors how accessible we are to our patients. We pride ourselves on building and maintaining a strong patient/physician relationship. Access to your child’s Primary Care Physician is important, as well as advice and immediate care when needed. We do our best to provide this access to every patient. Our goal is to minimize wait times, and we continually work to improve this. The following are our statistics from 4th quarter 2010:
- Average Advice calls per day: 194
- Average Advice wait times: 1 minute 38 seconds
- Average Scheduling calls per day: 255
- Average Scheduling wait times: 1 minute 32 seconds
* Please note that our busiest phone times are 8:00am to 10:00am and 3:00pm to 4:00pm. If calling during these times you may experience longer wait times than normal.
Immunizations
At The Children’s Clinic, our goal is to accurately and consistently immunize each child against preventable diseases. We monitor all patients as they reach age 2 for compliance.
- Average Immunization compliance for the State of Oregon: 73%*
- Average Immunization compliance Nationally: 76%*
- Average Immunization compliance for The Children’s Clinic: 89.6%
* Data from the 2009 National Immunization Survey – Updated September 2010, from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (www.cdc.gov)
Antibiotic Usage
Antibiotics made a dramatic impact on the grim toll taken by bacterial disease, but too much use has become a problem. Over-use of antibiotics has produced its own set of adverse consequences, including unnecessary side effects and emergence of resistant, difficult-to-treat bacteria. Our pediatricians feel that it is important to both the current and future health of our patients to eliminate the over-use of antibiotics. Our goal is to limit antibiotic treatment to only those conditions for which they are necessary and effective. We monitor charts continuously to improve care.
Developmental Screening
Our goal is to assess development of our patients at all ages. Special efforts have been implemented during well child visits at ages 9, 18 and 24 months. We believe that screening patients for developmental issues at these ages allows for referrals to Early Intervention, Developmental Specialists and Therapies at the earliest time possible. We are also able to reassure parents whose children do not need referrals that their child’s development is progressing appropriately.
Asthma Management
Asthma is a chronic condition which affects more and more American children each year. Our pediatricians have made a commitment to stay current on the latest guidelines for the management of childhood asthma. We continually upgrade our care to achieve the best health and quality of life for our asthma patients. Our goal is to have each of our asthma patients age 5-18 have at least one visit a year where their asthma symptoms and treatment are reviewed to provide the best possible management of this disease. In 2010, our first year of monitoring, we accomplished this goal with 89% of our patients with asthma.
