I approach counseling as a collaborative process, understanding the parents are the experts on their children’s problems. I am there to facilitate an environment to resolve problems. I believe that children benefit most if family members are actively involved and supportive of treatment.
I grew up in Tigard, loving babysitting and was drawn to working with children and their families for as long as I can remember. I landed on counseling after I finished my undergraduate studies in psychology at the University of Oregon (go Ducks!) and began working in a pediatric oncology clinic. I saw many siblings of chronically ill patients on the sidelines at appointments. Often the families would, rightfully, focus on the patient, but I wondered if the siblings had anyone to talk to help them process their feelings. Learning this was often not the case, I enrolled at George Fox University to pursue a degree in counseling, so I could work in mental and behavioral health.
I am married to one of the most caring and funny men I know and have two beautiful daughters who make us laugh daily. We have an oversized cat (Marshall) and a blue betta fish (Mustard) who were named by our girls. When my daughters are older, I hope to take them to see a Broadway show in New York City and travel more with my husband. I love to bake and I can cross one eye while looking straight ahead.
