At two months you will have a visit to the baby doctor for a well child exam – immunizations will be given at this visit. Your baby will be able to smile at you and let you know when they are hungry, tired or cold. Enjoy time holding, cuddling, singing, reading and playing with your baby. Your baby needs about 16 hours of sleep in 24 hours and should begin having one longer stretch of nighttime sleep (four to six hours). It is important that you rest and refuel – use times when your baby is asleep to do this.
Always put your baby to sleep on their backs to reduce the risk of SIDS. At two months most infants will achieve these milestones:
- Raises head when on stomach or your shoulder
- Opens and shuts hands
- Coos and vocalizes
- Smiles in response to your voice
- Begins to follow a moving object
